He is a clinical psychologist specialized in addiction and dual pathology. He studied undergraduate, master and doctoral studies at the Universidad Iberoamericana Mexico City. He is a specialist in the treatment of addiction by the Monte Fénix Center of Higher Education. He is certified in conducting and implementing clinical trials by the University of Miami, United States. He is currently a member of the IPADE Business School community. He is founder and CEO of SSMAP S.C., a company with more than 10 years of experience, dedicated to the mental health care of individuals, families, organizations and companies.

As a researcher, he currently serves as the head of the Unit of Clinical Trials in Addiction and Mental Health of the National Institute of Psychiatry Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz. He is a researcher in Medical Sciences "D" by the Coordinating Commission of National Institutes of Health and Hospitals of High Specialty and national researcher level I of the National System of Researchers of the National Council on Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Florida Node Alliance of the National Drug Abuse Institute and the Clinical Trials Network.

Within his scientific activity, he has had the opportunity to lead as principal investigator 11 high-impact protocols and one as co-investigator, in which he received national and international funding for its implementation and execution. He has participated as a speaker in numerous poster sessions, round tables, debates and conferences in congresses and scientific meetings at national and international level, in addition to being author and co-author of just under 70 scientific articles, 4 books, and 10 book chapters. He is also a member of committees and editorial boards of scientific journals such as: PLOS ONE, Frontiers in Psychiatry, Psicología Iberoamericana, Revista Internacional de Investigación en Adicciones, and was scientific co-editor of the journal SALUD MENTAL.

He is a scientific consultant and member of organizations such as the Spanish Society of Dual Pathology and the World Association of Dual Disorders, in addition to being deputy coordinator at the Academic Section of Addictive Disorders and Dual Pathology of the Mexican Psychiatric Association. He has been awarded and recognized by organizations such as NIDA International (Travel Award in 2013 and 2014), the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry (Lifetime Achivement Award in 2021), and the Mexican Psychiatric Association (Honorary Member 2021).

Its main lines of research are dual pathology, harm reduction, development and evaluation of intervention models, treatment and rehabilitation of substance use disorders and mental health in companies.
