CIJ has 40 years of experience in the field of drugs and carries out activities directed to the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and scientific research on drug consumption in Mexico.

The Operating Staff is composed of one thousand and two hundred workers. Most of them are mental health professionals. Over than six thousand volunteers works to support them. This allows the institution to provide assistance to three million and five hundred people annually with prevention and public awareness programs. Also, seventy thousand patients and their relatives are provided with treatment.

The National Operative Network of Care consists of  110 Centers: 98 Prevention and Treatment Centers that are mainly located in high-risk zones; 10 Hospitalization Units in the states of Baja California, Chiapas, Mexico City, Mexico State, Guerrero, Nuevo León, Sinaloa, Zacatecas and 2 in Jalisco and 2 Heroin Clinics in Baja California an Chihuahua.

The drug assistance and care is provided by multidisciplinary health teams (mental health professionals) and incorporates the active and organized community’s participation. The preventive services are free of charge. A symbolic sum assigned by the results of a social-economic study is requested in treatment-rehabilitation.

The majority of users do not pay any fees or costs.
